18. GEISS trimming spindles

Particularly the selection of the trimming spindle is important for the trimming machine to be operated efficiently. Conventional motor spindles proved to be especially susceptible to failure due to their high rated torque. In addition they require expensive tool changers. The trimming spindles developed by GEISS put an end to these difficulties.

For GEISS trimming spindles, for which we produce ourselves every part in highest precision and which are subject to most rigorous quality control, we have built up a very fast and unbureaucratic exchange and repair service. Rebuilt spindles and new spindles are permanently available. The rebuilt spindles are offered to our customers at an extremely attractive price. All spindles carry a guarantee for operational life.

1) GEISS trimming spindle ER16
This trimming spindle is included in the basic equipment of all machines. As an Option, it can be used in all additional vertical axes acc. to Option 28., all additional Z axes acc. to Option 37. and as lateral milling spindle acc. to Option 5.. 

Performance overview

• continuous motor shaft,
• the maximum speed of this spindle is around 30,000 rpm: however, it can be increased to 40,000 rpm for applications with higher requirement,
• stepless presetting of speed,
• tools with a shaft diameter up to 10mm can be fitted to each end of the shaft,
• saw blades up to 60mm can be utilised,
• the direction of rotation can be reversed in seconds,
• a power module of the Siemens control provides power to the machine suitable spindle,
• this water cooled spindle has a peak capacity of 6 kW.
  
  
  

2) GEISS trimming spindle ER25

The big, strong and also younger brother of the ER16 GEISS trimming spindle has been developed based on the long years of experience with this spindle and is used predominantly for the trimming of aluminium parts, thick-walled GRP parts and materials which are similarly difficult to machine.  

The use of this spindle requires a reinforced Z axis. The spindle is not suspended in a gimbal head but is fixed only on one side to permit bigger tools being used such as saw blades.

This newly developed spindle has the same design features as the proven GEISS spindle ER16, yet in addition

• more capacity,
• a higher torque,
• in both shaft ends it is possible to clamp tools with a shank of 16 mm,
• a peak capacity of 12 kW,
• the speed is programmable up to 24.000 rpm,
• liquid cooled and equipped with ceramic ball bearings,
• through shaft with a collet chuck ER25 to DIN 69893 on either end.
  

3) GEISS trimming spindle ER16 with shaft end extended by 100 mm on one end instead of the standard spindle.

This trimming spindle is used whenever certain positions on the workpiece cannot be reached otherwise.

The guarantee for the operating time fo this spindle is 600 hours.
