22. The "KS" system and sanitary equipment
The "KS" clamping system, specially developed for sanitary parts such as bathtubs, whirlpools and shower trays, has been completely integrated into the machine frame. Machines with this clamping system are therefore as compact as all other CNC machines from GEISS and permit a simple, space-saving complete encapsulation of the machine for connection to a dust extraction system. Since the processing of glass fibre reinforced sanitary parts produces large amounts of glass fibre, a good extraction system is necessary to ensure a long and trouble-free operation of the plant.
The extraction ducts in machines with KS system are integrated into the front and rear of the machine frame. They are arranged exactly at the level of the tub rim which permits to extract most of the swarf and glass fibre particles produced during the cut-off of the rim. Swarf that cannot be extracted directly falls downwards through the open frame of the clamping system onto a swarf conveyor or into a swarf collection bin.
The clamping system consists of a stationary table and a movable girder-shaped table each of which has 10 manually adjustable KS suction elements in the basic version. The suction elements are adjusted in such a way that any different length of tub can be clamped. The suction elements are individually or in groups connected to vacuum valves which can be controlled via M command.
The movable machine table is designed as NC axis so that it can be adjusted to the required tub width via program.
An air operated lifting frame mounted above the suction elements makes it easy to insert the heavy tubs. For insertion, the frame is lifted to push the tub into the machine. Adjuster bars on the frame determine the processing position of the tub. For processing, the frame is lowered so that the tub comes to rest on the suction elements. The frame sections are fitted with PE borders to protect the workpieces from damage during insertion. The frame sections can be steplessly displaced within the frame.
Complementing the KS clamping system, a typical sanitary equipment includes an additional vertical axis. In this axis mostly a WALTER milling spindle will be installed in order to clamp a large diamond sawblade for the milling of the rim.
