24. Bar code scanner; workpiece identification
The bar code scanner makes it possible to read a defined bar code on the work piece and automatically call up the corresponding CNC programme, to branch a CNC programme or to read a process data documentation for a workpiece number.
Many applications in NC technology today require the reading-in of tool identification data prior to processing. Nowadays, these data are mostly read from a bar code label. Yet there are also other ways to read in tool data automatically, for example by transponder antennae.
Bar code scanners and the necessary software for processing the data in the machine control may be found in our offers, other solutions are customized.
For example, tool ID data must be read in if process data logging is required, which is the only way to clearly assign a part to the process data.
Further applications are component identification and the reading-in of job instructions. According to the content of the bar code, the relevant programs or subroutines can be started during processing.
Machines with a centre screen, 2 sliding tables or a shuttle table should be provided with 2 scanners to ensure process stability and clear assignment of the parts to the processing station.
