Twin sheet process
The Twin Sheet process is a specialized thermoforming process for producing hollow plastic components. Two thermoplastic sheets are heated simultaneously, drawn into two matching mould halves and then welded together under heat and pressure. The result is closed, highly stable hollow components with low weight.
Advantages and applications of the Twin Sheet process
The double wall structure of the Twin Sheet process provides high dimensional stability and strength while reducing material usage. Internal reinforcing ribs or channels can be integrated directly into the mould, providing additional functionality without the need for further processing steps.
Typical applications of the Twin Sheet process include housings and covers with large hollow spaces, tanks and containers for liquids or gases, as well as lightweight components for the automotive and mechanical engineering industries.
GEISS offers specially developed thermoforming machines for the Twin Sheet process, featuring automated loading and precise temperature control. They are ideal for highly complex component geometries and high production volumes.
