GEISS Glossary
Edge trimming machine
An edge trimming machine is a specialised processing unit used to precisely remove excess material edges, for example on plastic, sheet metal or wooden components. In industrial manufacturing it is an essential part of post-processing, such as after thermoforming, to produce clean and dimensionally accurate outer contours.
Function and applications of an edge trimming machine
Edge trimming machines are used wherever components need to be brought into an exact final shape after forming or cutting. Typical areas of application include the automotive industry, packaging technology, furniture manufacturing and medical engineering. Depending on the application, edge trimming machines may operate manually, semi-automatically or fully automatically, and can be equipped with milling tools, sawing units or laser cutters.
For the precise post-processing of plastic moulded parts, GEISS CNC machining centres are used. They meet the highest requirements for dimensional accuracy, process speed and repeatability – particularly after thermoforming.
