GEISS Glossary

Thermoforming tool

A thermoforming tool is a manufacturing device that defines the desired contour into which the heated plastic sheet is drawn during thermoforming. The tool is usually made of aluminium and forms the heart of the thermoforming process – it largely determines the shape, dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the moulded part.

Importance and applications of a thermoforming tool in plastics processing

Thermoforming tools are used in industrial plastics processing, for example in the automotive, packaging or medical sectors. They enable the cost-efficient production of complex geometries while ensuring high repeatability.
GEISS designs and manufactures precise thermoforming tools in its own tool and mould making facilities – individually tailored to the respective thermoforming machines and production requirements.
