Roundtable CNC machine
A CNC machine with a rotary table allows workpieces to be loaded and unloaded outside the machining area while another workpiece is being machined inside the machine at the same time. This significantly reduces downtime during workpiece changes and increases machine utilization.
How does a CNC machine with a rotary table work?
The finished workpiece can be removed from the outer half of the table and immediately replaced with a new workpiece. Once machining of the first workpiece is complete, the rotary table turns 180°. The newly clamped workpiece is then moved into the machining area and can be processed immediately.
At the same time, the previously machined workpiece is positioned outside the machine and can be removed. The next workpiece change can then be prepared while the CNC machine is already machining the next workpiece.
What are the advantages of a CNC rotary table?
High machine utilization: The CNC machine does not need to be stopped for workpiece changes. This allows the available machining time to be used more efficiently.
Fast workpiece changeover: The next workpiece can already be clamped and prepared for the next machining cycle while machining is still in progress.
Safe handling: Loading and unloading take place outside the machining area, providing the operator with a safe and easily accessible working area.
Compact design: By combining the machining area and the loading and unloading area in a single rotary table, a CNC machine with a rotary table requires comparatively little floor space. Compared to machine concepts with separate loading and unloading areas, this can save valuable space in the production area.
Efficient production process: Machining and workpiece changeover are seamlessly integrated. This makes the concept particularly well suited for repetitive machining processes and series production.
Rotary table at Geiss CNC machines
While one workpiece is being machined inside the machine, the finished workpiece can be removed from the outer half of the table and the next workpiece can be clamped. Once machining is complete, the rotary table rotates 180°. The prepared workpiece is then moved into the machining area, while the finished workpiece is moved to the outside.
This process combines machining and workpiece changeover, thereby reducing unproductive auxiliary times. At the same time, the compact design offers advantages when integrating the CNC machine into existing production areas.
A CNC machine with a rotary table is therefore particularly suitable for applications where short cycle times, high machine utilization and an efficient material flow are essential.
